Journey of Youth Leadership

The project targets existing governance bodies of youth organisations as well as young people aged 18-25 who are interested in taking on leadership positions. The leadership academy will be tailored particularly to young people with fewer opportunities, who are usually much less likely to participate in decision-making, such as young parents, young workers, ethnic minorities or young people from poor economic backgrounds.

As outputs, we published a Toolkit on Youth Leadership and the video documentary of their journey, take a look!

Peace Communicators

PeaceCommunicators work plan for 2022 aimed to provide space for young people to develop skills, attitudes, values, and knowledge to build sustainable, just, and supportive societies. They will do this  by becoming multiplier of inclusion. i.e.,  this will give young people the skills required to provide an alternative to normative way  by questioning status quo.

As outcomes, the 'PeaceCommunicators Starter Kit with tools and methods covering educational ways in supporting trainers to defuse conflict within peer group was published. The Starter Kit was created to support young leaders and trainers in addressing interpersonal conflicts in groups and provide them with ideas, resources and methods for non-violent communication and conflict management.

Kids Got Rights!

Kids Got Rights! was a two-year project focusing on child participation and the empowerment of children through self-organisation and claiming their own rights. The project involves children from 8 to 13 years old in six international meetings and several national activities, besides a parallel research action, aimed at raising awareness and training children and adults around the topic of children's participation rights.

You can read our 'Sharing Meeting' post here.

Common Ground

The Common Ground Camp was hosted by Woodcraft Folk in the UK in 2022. We brought together thousands of children and young people from across the world for ten days of camping, cooperation, and friendship on 29 July-08 August 2022. Woodcraft Folk and friends from around the world stand together on Common Ground – to live co-operatively in solidarity and friendship, having lots of fun!

This was the first IFM-SEI international camp since Welcome to Another World in 2016. The camp took place at Kelmarsh Hall in Northamptonshire, England.

Check out the amazing video made by Woodcraft Folk.

Dream our G->Local Movement

In this project, we brought and created a space for shared learning and the exchange of good practices. The main aim Dream our G->LOCAL Movement is to reflect on our own practices regarding accessibility and inclusion and find ways to improve our movement. Together with other organisations working with underserved youth and children, we will support a young generation of youth workers to develop accessible and inclusive approaches to engage in youth work locally, nationally and internationally.

Changemakers of Tomorrow

The Changemakers of Tomorrow project was part of the 2022 European Youth Foundation Campaign called “Democracy Here, Democracy Now!”. The aim of this project was to give young people the tools necessary for meaningful participation to create spaces for democratic participation. By equipping them to engage in democracy, we hope to develop their skills from citizens into makers of change through non-formal educational practices.

Education for Social Change (SET)

“Education for Social Change” also known as SET is a short-term project of IFM-SEI and its partners which explores the importance of non-formal education and how it directly affects children and young people’s lives.

Education is a lifelong process that does not simply take place as a one-off activity but is a long-term development of attitudes, understanding and empathy, whereby people can become critical thinkers and reflect on power structures in society, and give them the skills and tools to fight for a more equal and just world. Organizations using non-formal education methodology are the key actors to create social change in Europe, offering an alternative education to the national curricula. Only through education can we challenge the status quo in society by educating a new generation of critical thinkers and equip them with knowledge, skills and attitudes to fight for a better world for current and future generations, and to challenge the neoliberal, individualistic society in which we live.

Resist!

This project will focus on some parts of IFM-SEI’s Strategy and Work Plan (2019-2022), such as Climate Change and Environment, Socialist Education, Child and Youth Participation, and Inclusion and Diversity.

Resist! is an annual work plan generously funded by the European Youth Foundation of the Council of Europe.

EFN – Society is Ours

EFN is a network with all of IFM-SEI European Member Organisations. With the seminar, we aimed to explore the importance of civil society and how democratic participation is vital to the good functioning of the European Union in protecting and safeguarding fundamental rights, as well as sharing and identifying methods to combat shrinking civil space and promote civic engagement through volunteering in nonformal children’s and youth organisations.

Building Bridges: Youth Work for Peace and Dialogue

It was a long-term project from 2018-2020 that promoted peace education and dialogue through youth work in developing countries and in Europe with a transcontinental approach. Check out the toolkit created during the project.

Let's talk about SEX

The project addressed issues of gender, sexuality, bodies, body positivity and inclusive sex education, and explored and celebrated the non-normative aspects of sex education and the groups of people who are often left out of sex education. Through the project, we explore what sex is, why people have sex, how to do it safely with consent and the emotional side of sex. Do you want to know the outcomes of the project?

I Act

In this project we study the prevention of sexual violence from a bystander approach. You are an active bystander when you take responsibility and decide to act when you see something happening that could lead to an act of sexual violence.

On the Move

This was an exciting and ambitious project that ran from 2016-2018 and ranged from managing visa barriers to raising awareness of the challenges faced by young refugees and migrants and their better inclusion in our organisations. As part of the outcomes, we delivered 2 trainings and a handbook. Check it out!
