Our IFM-SEI family is growing! During our XXVIII Congress from the 28 to 29 July in Tiblisi, Georgia, we welcomed Girls Excel from Cameroon and Ajyal Youth Movement from Isreal as full members.
Let's get to know them a bit better!
Ajyal Youth Movement
Ajyal Youth Movement was established in 2006 by young Arab leaders who believe in the power of an educational change for the Arab society within Israel. Starting with eight local branches, they grew to now 18 chapters and are represented all across the country.
Ajyal Youth Movement focusses on peace, humanism and interfaith cooperation and on fostering social justice and democracy in all aspects of life. They aim to empower youth leaders to promote co-existence based on equality, cooperation and mutual respect.
Ajyal Youth Movement is running educational activities locally through their mostly female-led branches and covers topics ranging from human and children's rights and sexual diversity to anti-violence and anti-racism work. They also run national camps all across the country.
Girls Excel
Girls Excel is a non-profit and social impact organisation founded in 2015 that promotes access to reproductive health education and sanitary pads for adolescent girls and young women in rural communities in Cameroon. They aim to create communities in which the absence of the above no longer hinders adolescent girls from pursuing their education. They believe in designing programmes that empower teenage girls and young women and provide sustainable solutions to some of the challenges that limit their ability to maximise their full potential and excel.
Besides the focus on reproductive health, Girls Excel works in human and children's rights, gender equality, ICT and sustainable development. In the framework of the Girls Excel Mentoring Clubs (short GE Clubs), they work through a community of girls-led clubs which use art and games to educate girls and young women on menstrual and reproductive health while building their confidence and skills as peer educators. This way, the participants are empowered to amplify the effort of the organisation into the broader communities.
The aims and purposes of Girls Excel include the promotion of education and empowerment of girls and women on issues that affect their lives and the support them in accessing poverty reduction tools like education, advocacy and entrepreneurship. Further, they aim to create a safe space and platform where girls and women can freely discuss issues affecting their learning and wellbeing.
