About
“Education for Social Change” also known as SET is a short-term project of IFM-SEI and its partners which explores the importance of non-formal education and how it directly affects children and young people’s lives.
Education is a lifelong process that does not simply take place as a one-off activity but is a long-term development of attitudes, understanding and empathy, whereby people can become critical thinkers and reflect on power structures in society, and give them the skills and tools to fight for a more equal and just world. Organizations using non-formal education methodology are the key actors to create social change in Europe, offering an alternative education to the national curricula. Only through education can we challenge the status quo in society by educating a new generation of critical thinkers and equip them with knowledge, skills and attitudes to fight for a better world for current and future generations, and to challenge the neoliberal, individualistic society in which we live.
The specific objectives of this project are the following:
- Equip youth workers with core competencies of non-formal education for social change.
- Identify the importance of non-formal education for social change.
- Create a shared understanding of our network’s specific approach to nonformal education.
- Develop an educational toolkit with theory, values, methods and good practices based on our approach of nonformal education for social change.
- Design an accessible and inclusive toolkit meeting the needs of the participating organizations and beyond.
