June 20 – June 26 Mura, Catalonia
The Changemakers of Tomorrow project recently held their seminar in Mura, Catalonia. Here, participants came together from around the world to discuss democracy, youth participation, and global change.
“Democracy is a tool used in public and private”
From June 20 – June 26, around 15 young people across the world joined us to discuss youth participation in democracy. We went deep into the topic, discussing what democracy is, where we can locate it, and what stops us from participating. This was done through non-formal educational methods such as forum theater, silent debates, barometers and simulation games. We also had the chance to collaborate with the IFM-SEI global project “Journey of Youth Leadership” for an intercultural evening and for “satellite celebration” #4 for the IFM-SEI centenary where we had ice cream and played IFM-SEI bingo. It was fantastic to have these two IFM-SEI two activities were running simultaneously to give both groups participants the opportunity to share and learn from a greater number of participants.
We continued the week by developing concrete skills in community building looking at campaigning, SMART goals and thinking about how to bring projects from local to global. While the week drew to a close the project continues with the changemakers planning follow-up local action projects to revitalize democracy in their own communities!
“Enacting national change is a difficult process to participate in because we are excluded from those processes”
Thanks so much to everyone who joined us. To check out the Journey of Youth Leadership “Good Governance” that happened simultaneously, check out the web article on our website. We look forward to sharing all the follow up local actions that the Changemakers of Tomorrow are currently working on! Keep up us, follow us on social media @ifmsei ❤️
This project is funded by the European Youth Foundation of the Council of Europe within the framework of the Youth Campaign “Democracy here. Democracy now.”
