We here at the international seminar, PeaceCommunicators are working for Peace Education and to end violence. We are devastated by the recent invasion of Ukraine and the start of a war.

We call for international solidarity for those affected by the conflict, both those who are in danger from military violence and those whose safety is at risk while protesting and speaking up. 

We condemn these attacks on Ukrainian sovereignty and democracy. We recognise that these actions are a threat to peace everywhere. The consequences of war are always devastating but especially when there is such an imbalance of power. War should never be used as a political instrument and does not solve conflicts. 

We demand institutions such as the Council of Europe, the European Union and the United Nations to take actions to ensure democracy and peace. 

We ask nation states and governments to protect everyone's right to live safely, free from war and violence. We want all countries to open their borders to all those fleeing conflicts. All refugees, asylum seekers and displaced people must be treated with respect and dignity and have access to the resources and support they need. 

We urge our communities to be critical consuming sources of media and to not be misled by fake news. The best place to get news is first hand from Ukrainian citizens. We ask you to put pressure on your governments to enact the steps we outline here and we would like you to contact those with platforms and ask them to share this letter. 

We stand for peace everywhere and against violence and oppression anywhere. 

We send love and solidarity to all those affected by the hostilities. 

What can you do:

SOCIAL MEDIA → Use #westandwithukraine in your social media posts and amplify the voices involved in and protesting against the invasion and expose the violations against Children’s Rights. 

EDUCATE → Educate yourself about the situation and the impact of violence on Human Rights and Children’s Rights.

ADVOCATE → Get in touch with your representatives and encourage them to call for non-violence and a peaceful resolution of the conflict, and support anti-occupation legislation.

DONATE → If you have the means to show financial solidarity, make sure you are donating to those directly impacted. Here are some examples of places you can donate.
