Are you passionate about socialist education?  Do you want to have a seminar on Socialist Education with an intersectional and international perspective? Keep reading!

Education is a basic human right and one of the aims and principles of IFM-SEI. We believe that education is the most powerful tool to achieve social change. Through non-formal education, we create a space for children and young people to develop critical thinking. By underpinning this Non-Formal Education (NFE) with our values, we experience learning, reflect and share our opinions and impressions, compare them to existing theories and apply it in our daily life. Through this process, we aim to challenge the inequalities in our world. Now more than ever, when we know that the future is uncertain and inequalities are strengthened, we are more than happy to invite you to the Socialist Education – Training for Trainers.

About the training

In IFM-SEI, we consider that we do more than just non-formal education – we do socialist education. This does not mean that we indoctrinate children and young people to vote for specific political parties. Socialist education is a theory and practice in which children and young people can critically analyse existing power structures on all levels of society and are motivated and empowered to take action for social change. Socialist education is a form of political education where we develop children and young people to become critical thinkers, and give them the tools to be active decision-makers in their own lives and communities.

The main aim of the Socialist Education Training for Trainers is to promote Socialist Educationand equipping youth workers with the tools so social change can be multiplied on different levels.

More specifically, the objectives are the following:

  • To provide non-formal education methodology and tools on Socialist Education.
  • To understand the principles and values of non-formal education and Socialist Education.
  • To create a space for the participants to try out Socialist Education in a local setting
  • To form a young network of educators within IFM-SEI network.
  • To encourage innovative and critical thinking.
  • To equip participants to solve problems on the basis of socialist principles.

This means that the seminar will

  • Equip you with an understanding of non-formal education methodology and the know how to implement it.
  • Give space for you to try out and get to know the non-formal education learning cycle and apply it into your group work.
  • Create the opportunity, the skills and knowledge to become a Socialist Educator yourself and engage in future opportunities to facilitate international spaces.
  • Give an international perspective to inequalities and power imbalances around the world.
  • Be a seminar full of learning, experiencing, reflecting and international friendships.
