Human Rights Day is held every year on 10 December. On this day in 1948, the United Nations General Assembly adopted the Universal Declaration of Human Rights (UDHR).

The UDHR is a document that declares the rights which every human is entitled to regardless of race, colour, religion, sex, language, political or other opinions, national or social origin, property, birth or another status. UDHR is available in more than 500 languages and holds the title of the most translated document in the world. Despite this title, too many people are still unaware of their basic rights as humans.

Human Rights in the face of COVID-19

In the year 2020, the global Covid-19 pandemic has affected all of our lives. As UN Secretary-General António Guterres said:

“Covid-19 does not care who we are, where we live, what we believe or in any other distinction…”

In almost every country in the world, some kind of restrictions has been made to secure the health of all of us and to protect the people in most vulnerable situations. Some restrictions have affected our rights as humans, for example, the right to education. Even during this pandemic people who are aware of their rights are raising their voices and seeking equal rights and a better future. In this week we shouldn’t forget the quiet ones, all the people who don’t know what they are entitled to, the people without education or knowledge of human rights.

Human Rights through education!

In the world past Covid-19, we need to ensure that Human Rights are in the centre of the recovery and rebuilding of our world. We need to reach the goal that all humans know their rights and in IFM-SEI we believe that education is a key factor in this.

IFM-SEI calls everyone to stand up for Human Rights through education!
