Moria Fires aftermath

A fire had erupted two days ago on the overcrowded refugee camp “Moria” on the Greek island of Lesbos. The fire resulted in thousands of refugees and asylum seekers fleeing and end up homeless; among those thousands are over 4,000 children.

The overly crowded situation of Moria’s island was violating a lot of human rights and children’s rights before the fire. Moria’s refugees and asylum seekers were living in inhuman conditions with no hygiene basic needs to survive the world pandemic. IFM-SEI sees Moria’s situation as a massive violation of Human Rights and Children's Rights.

IFM-SEI stands in solidarity with all the refugees who are living under an inhumane situation, especially with everyone who is affected today from Moria’s fire aftermath.

The European Commission financially supported the immediate transfer of approximately 400 children to the mainland, IFM-SEI appreciates this step. However, we believe this is not enough, as we stand for the direct support for everyone and every single child to find a true refuge and humane environment. We urge the European institutions and the EU governments to have concrete actions to stop human rights and the children's rights violations.
