Are you aged 16-30 and passionate about the topic of refugees and migration? Do you work or volunteer with child refugees, or are interested in doing so? Are you concerned about the situation regarding unaccompanied minors? If the answer is yes to these questions, you should apply to our upcoming study session in partnership with the Council of Europe:

‘Children on the move – how youth organisations can support young refugees and migrants’.

Programme

Children preparing a 20N activity in the floor of their village main square.Participants will come together for six days to explore the historical and current contexts of migration, discover the current legal frameworks and what these mean in practice, talk about how migration affects us and hear stories about young refugees realities’ and the impact migration has on our communities and societies. We will think about the discourse around refugees and the link with governments, corporations, institutions and the capitalist system. The study session will approach the topic from a child-based perspective. We will look at current initiatives around the inclusion of child refugees and unaccompanied minors in organisations and societies, and offer space to think about what needs to be done by us and develop our own projects and actions.

Participant profile

  • Be aged 16 to 30 years old – participants aged 16 and 17 must get consent from their parent/guardian and attend with another participant from their organisation who is willing to take responsibility for them for the duration of the study session
  • Be active in an IFM-SEI member organisation or active in the field of child refugees and/or unaccompanied minors
  • Have experience in the topic of child refugees and unaccompanied minors or a desire to start a project on the topic
  • Have at least an intermediate level of English
  • Be able to attend the whole study session and be able to take part in a preparatory task/project before the study session
  • Have the motivation to take back the learning to their home organisations and/or communities

You do not have to be an expert to apply for this study session – we welcome applications from those who are interested in the topic, are motivated to get stuck into the study session and get involved in projects on the topic following the study session.
