The young members of Nuoret Kotkat have a very special status in their organization. Nuoret Kotkat’s goal is to strength the role of the youth even more in a future. This summer they took one step closer to their goal.

In 2016 Youth Congress of Nuoret Kotkat made an initiative to organize a national camp for the young participants from age 13 to 19 years. The representative body of Nuoret Kotkat decided to follow the will of the youth. In summer 2017 they turned into an action – tent camp near by the lake, with a big sauna. 30 young participants had a memorable week.

The daily program was built around different themes like democracy, equality, internationalism, community and solidarity. The highlight of the week was the guests. First the former president Tarja Halonen told them about  internationalism on presidents point of view and after her, current councilor of Espoo City Habiba Ali told them her story of life as an immigrant between two different cultures. The guests made an huge impact to the group.

Youth gave feedback that the most important thing on the camp was the communal atmosphere among the participants. This camp proved again the importance of organizations youth activities. Nuoret Kotkat has an important signification on the society. It creates a fusion of the safe environment to strength the social capital, enjoy the summer vacation and at the same time opportunity to learn to know the values which are guiding humanity.
