Children’s Rights

cyclists arriving at campIFM-SEI is a children and youth-led movement fighting for Children's Rights globally. The UN Convention on the Rights of the Child is a key document for IFM-SEI and our member organisations.  We work with children and young people to educate them about their rights and to empower them to take action to ensure their rights and those of others are respected.

IFM-SEI works for Children's Rights in co-operation with other NGO's, national and international institutions.  Our aim is to ensure children's voices are heard globally and that their rights are respected acroszs the world.

Our approach to Child Rights

Education: As an educational organisation, IFM's central strategy for the promotion of children's rights is through our educational programmes.  We work with children all over the world through peer education, empowering them to contribute to building a better world.

Advocacy: In addition to our educational programmes, IFM-SEI advocates for the rights of the child. IFM-SEI has been selected to fill one of ten permanant seats in the European Forum on the Rights of the Child.  An initiative of the European Commission, the Forum brings together EU member states, the European Parliament and Commission, Children's ombudsmen, the European Economic and Social COmmittee, UNICEF, the Council of Europe and NGOs to contribute to the drafting of the EU Strategy on the Rights of the Child and promote child rights mainstreaming.  At national level, our member organisations work with their national governments and NGO groups to contribute to the promotion of the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child and ensure children have an input to drafting the shadow reports

Direct Work with vulnerable children: IFM works with vulnerable children offering them a space where their voices can be heard and supporting them with their basic needs.  Where we offer direct services for children, we combine this with strong lobbying, ensuring national governments know that education and health are the responsibility of governments not NGOs.
